What If
Since I heard about this yesterday, I've been contemplating the world if Joaquin Phoenix and Mark Wahlberg were the leads in Brokeback Mountain. Wahlberg said that he and Phoenix were considered for the leads but neither were comfortable with "the sex scene." While I applaud their reason for not taking the leads, I can't help but wonder the movie with the two of them in the leads.First, would Wahlberg have played the part of Jack Twist (Jake's role) and Phoenix play the role of Ennis (Heath Ledger)? Somehow, I think Wahlberg would have made the line "I wish I knew how to quit you" less of a punchline. Or not.
Brokeback Mountain was a good movie, but not a great one. The story was solid but there were some weaknesses, one of them being Heath Ledger as Ennis. Phoenix as Ennis? Now, thats a what if.
