The Tough Decision

Back in the day, I used to watch the West Wing. Aaron Sorkin's wit and language, Bradley Whitford, Allison Janney, the whole cast...it was a great show. Plus, being someone whose been fascinated with government since i was a little kid well.....it had it all.

When Sorkin left two years ago, I stopped watching the show. This summer I watched an episode here and there and realized that the show was back to being good (that rarely happens), and there’s an election. Now, this election is more interesting to me than most elections because…..both candidates are cool.

Most real elections lately, and all of the presidential elections I’ve been able to vote for…I always go for the candidate that sucks the least…but I actually like both of the candidates on West Wing. On the left you have Jimmy Smits, or Congressman Santos…He’s a demo…more of a classic demo…and he’s well…..really hot.

On the right you have one of my influential actors of all time, Alan Alda. I’ve been watching Alan Alda since I was born. In fact, I still watch MASH on the weekends and evenings thanks to Kelli’s season 1-5. So anyway, I saw this picture today and realized I’m torn. Alan Alda is playing a moderate republican…who believes his stances and not just because the party tells him what to vote for. Jimmy Smits…is incredibly hot and is an idealized democrat. Hmm.. If only picking a candidate was this enjoyably difficult in the real world.

I've been wanting to blog on how great this show is all week! You beat me to it! I am so loving the new candidates, the pending nuptials, Donna's triumphant in-your-face-Josh return, and Toby's departure. This show really knows how to recover from its little downfall. I predict that Sunday night's live debate episode is one of the best moments in TV history. No other show could pull off such a feat! I can't wait! (and I am totally torn between candidates as well! Santos' heart and conviction, or Vinnick's talent and brains?!)

All I know is that the guy on the right is pretty hot.

I'll be rooting for Santos because I like the less tainted underdog.

Santos, Santos, Santos. Although the idea of Alan Alda playing a republican is almost amusing enough for me to want to watch it. The sheer irony.

Thanks heavens West Wing got it together again.

I think Alan Alda helped to form my sense of humor. I know it's okay to make fun of people who are stuffy, but in the end, do the right thing.

so here it is the day after the debate. What do you think? How did it go? What about the long speeches by Alda's character? How do you see them effecting the rest of the campaign? Who do you think won the debate? Where do we go from here? What would Elmo have to say?
