DC Gothic

This afternoon, I took advantage of the gorgeous spring weather and walked up to Potbelly's to grab a sandwich. After finishing my sandwich, and having time left in my lunch hour, I realized that the painting, American Gothic by Grant Wood was literally across the street from Potbelly's. I navigated through the masses of tourist (another sign of spring in DC) and went into the Renwick Gallery. I didn't realize that American Gothic was just one painting in a fairly large exhibition of Grant's work. I didn't even realize the extent of Grant's work. He looked at painting as a craft, and this perspective is evident in his work. He also had a sense of humor which shows up in some of his work. If you get a chance, go on over to the Renwick and take a gander at this exhibit (and don't forget to check out the game fish).

(Two of Grant's paintings-the Game fish is below that)

The gamefish actually totally freaks me out. I can't explain it. But it seriously freaks me out!

erin-the gamefish is one of my favorite pieces of art out here

esperanza-yeah, i didn't think that seeing the original american gothic would be all that cool because of how common that image is. However, i stared at it for several minutes. Very, Very cool. The prints don't do it justice

hoo-thanks. I was thinking of doing my own from scratch but i might tinker around with this one. I like the color
