I'm not sure why I'm sitting here on a Friday evening instead of hanging out with friends, but here I am. I didn't work today so a friend and I went to Virginia Beach last night. The wind was up, blew the tops of the waves off so he didn't get to surf. But we went to the Virginia Beach Aquarium (again), to a couple of surf shops, had seafood for lunch because we were both craving it and then back to the City, with the car windows rolled down because the weather is gorgeous. Even though the wind was a deterrent, it still was a fab day at the beach.

I arrived home, noticed my hair is about a day shy of being dredded out, and took a look at the Washington Post home page..20 minutes before Secretary Norton resigned her office. I've worked in the Secretary's office for almost four years, and my jaw dropped when I saw the article. Although I'm a Civil Servant, and my job isn't affected, it affects the jobs of the Political Appointees I work with, and will overhaul most of the offices in the Office of the Secretary. The Political Appointees I work with will all probably lose their jobs. So, I won't blog all the upcoming news, but the next couple of months will be interesting.

Funniest thing I remember hearing all week: Mary Tyler Moore told David Letterman on his show that her (and others) nickname for Dick Van Dyke was "Penis Von Lesbian"

It seems like a waste to fire everyone. I assume that by the time the re-hire all the new people the administration will be on its way out. Can the new secretary retain the old staff?

Sherpa, I think you should apply for the secretary's job and let everyone else stay.

They don't fire everyone. Just the Schedule C's. Most will probably be gone, but not all. Anyway, they know that they have that risk when they take the job.

The Secretary retains her Civil Servants, but the new Secretary will bring in her/his new people.

The new Secretary could be someone who is already working for Sec. Norton-the under or one of the deputy secretaries. Its going to be interesting seeing all of this go down.
