Boston? Sounds about right...

I've been asked if I'm from the East Coast (or in a few cases, Eastern Europe) all my life. Once, a linguist was very confused when I told her I wasn't from the East Coast, but from Eastern Utah (this is when I was living in Utah). I was the only person she ever got the accent wrong apparently. In other words, this quiz came as no surprise.

What American accent do you have?
Your Result: Boston

You definitely have a Boston accent, even if you think you don't. Of course, that doesn't mean you are from the Boston area, you may also be from New Hampshire or Maine.

The West
The Midland
North Central
The Northeast
The Inland North
Philadelphia
The South

I got Inland North and Northeast second, which makes sense being from Western PA. People have asked if I am Canadian, from Wisconsin (something the quiz caught), and eastern Europe lots of times, haha.

Seriously, Boston? Why on earth would you have that accent?

Steve--I've gotten Eastern Europe a couple of times. The individuals who told me that were so confused when I said I was from Utah.

Yeah, I've been told I sound like a new englander all my life. Go figure!

My Mom's results (she has lived in Utah virtually all her life) from this quiz:

My results were Midland, with West being the middle of the pack next to Boston. It also said I had little accent, & would have a good broadcasting voice. Interesting, not the same as yours, but similar. However, I don't think I would be a good voice for TV or radio -- although my singing voice is low & getting lower, my speaking voice is high & squeaky.
