As I was thinking of President Hinckley the past couple of days, the following words of his kept coming to mind, "Be a little better, try a little harder." Really, what more is there to say?
I actually didn't like him that much, felt most of his talks were too folksy, but when I read the news yesterday, I did feel sadness for his family and the church b/c he was such a good leader and person. I hope the church is able to find an as intelligent new President.
Huh, I think you're the first person to say that. I always liked his talks, they were more action and gospel oriented I thought. Now President Monson, I'm almost ashamed to say this, but I really tend to gloss over his talks, he's too much of an "emotion, feel good" speaker for me. However, President Monson's message of compassion is important and if he's called as the Prophet, I'll sustain him--I guess I need more widows, little boys and heart-touching poetry in my life.
i'm with you sherpa. i keep looking for some widows. truth is - i probably know some! anyway, there's always something to learn - especially when our first inclination is disinterest (or something else less than enthusiastic) - at least that's my motto.
Oh, don't get me wrong, I found him to me super intelligent and fascinating, not to mention admirable on every level. His talks didn't usually leave me inspired.
So true about Monson's talks. Although, doesn't he always tell these funny, albeit long, stories (fables).
I have to disagree folks. I always loved Pres. Monson's talks. I admire him because he was there at the beginning of the church welfare program. He is no President Hinckley, but he will have his own ideas for the church. President Hinckley will be missed.
Lucy-Oh I admire President Monson. What he did for the church during the great depression, his history of church service is admirable to say the least. I'm not denying that. However, his method of teaching style I don't do well with. Some do, and that's totally cool. I think the Church and myself included of course, needs his central message, and I won't be looking for a window when we sustain him, but uh, I think it'll be interesting. I know I'll have to swallow my pride some.

Yeah, I totally agree Sarah-its when we're disinterested is when we probably need to humble ourselves more....and find a widow or two to help out.

Ditto on your post. Really, what more is there.
In reading the comments, I agree about Monson...I usually gloss over his talks.

I heard about this. It's...sad.
Paleo, it's sad, but he lead a great, full, life, was a great leader and did a ton for the church.
