Yesterday, I was sitting outside during my lunch hour on a bench in across from my office building. I was enjoying the sun and engaging in a little people watching when I heard a screech and glanced over to see a large (even for DC) rat pounce on a starling. The starling put up a bit of a fight, but it was no contest. As the starling was being dragged to the bushes; a group of starlings mobbed and squawked at the rat. As the incident rolled up; I was sitting on the bench a little surprised that I was disturbed. Even though I've seen animals kill each other before-there's something about the scene that makes my skin crawl a little. Rats-make my skin crawl. Starlings-trash birds. The whole thing is a conundrum.

ewww for rats. although i admit i wish you could have taken a picture of it.
It's a foreshadowing of things to come in D.C.
Rats make my skin crawl too. I would've been pretty freaked out if I'd seen that. This story reminded me of the time I was walking to the metro late one night and a giant rat (literally the size of a small cat) ran right into my foot. I was on the phone and screamed out loud and jumped into the street. I could've been killed that night. Rats are disgusting.
