Live from Alexandria VA, this is Weekend Update:

Friday, I arrived back in town from New Mexico. I went there for work- So I left DC Wednesday morning and made it back less than 72 hours later. Whirlwind trip and I didn't see very much but the work was pretty productive, the people I went with are great, the food I had didn't quite scratch my Mexican food itch, but still pretty darn good, and I can now say I shared a shower with two of my co-workers. Which two, I'm not talking. I also think I could really move to New Mexico, like I would move there from DC tomorrow (well okay maybe after the parents come out in August) no problem. If someone would hire me that is. Unfortunately no pictures yet, but I might get some by the end of the week. Anyway, the flight wasn't too memorable except for nearly missing a flight, talking to a retired Chicago cop who lives in NM by himself (he's going to school there), sharing a few comments about Evangelical teenagers wearing tiaras and backwards cowboy hats with my seatmate, and making it back to DC utterly exhausted.

Saturday, I still hadn't quite recovered from the trip, but Jenny and I had a plan. The plan changed from mt biking to tubing to going to a fish fry/bike (Harley) contest/Blues concert sponsored by the DC Blues Festival at an American Legion in Green Belt. The music was superb, the cat-fish good, Jenny and I both scored cookbooks, and the people watching...awesome. Having good friends who like doing this sort of thing...priceless. Afterwards, we headed down to the Vernon chapel to a singles extravaganza. We made it okay while outside---the dance threw us both off (we both like to dance, but we realized we're old) and went back home. We stopped by the Potomac to check out the gorgeous moon, interrupted a couple getting it on, smirked a little when four cars (almost guaranteed filled with Mormons) pulled up as we were leaving.

From Summer '08

Sunday, got things done--had a good day overall. Sat by some new friends in the (still) new ward, felt even less like a newbie, and nearly cried over one of the talks. I think the person next to me shed a few tears which was touching. I don't think I've ever heard a talk quite like it, and definitely filed it away in my lil' brain. All in all a good day in prep for the rest of the week.

Sounds like a fun weekend and co-ed showers are always fun, although they were always strangers when I did that in Germany, not co-workers!?!? And as a fellow govt employee, I know that couldn't have been pretty, haha.

Lucy-How was New York? Was following the games closely this weekend. Would have been great to be at the Stadium!

ZuluZombieSteve-They do things a little different in this corner of the government..and by different, I mean I was told by one co-worker who may or may not have been in the shower that no one should go around with no clothes on--naked is not pretty. I'm suspicious I work with a never-nude.

I haven't been to New Mexico since I was a teen and then it was just for a few nights, but I have always dreamed of living in Santa Fe at some point.

Hey... you should post like a paragraph summary of the talk or something. I could use a spiritual uplift like that from someone cool like you.

Coed showers? I have no idea what to do with that one. Apparently I'm not much of a world traveler that way.

I miss you guys!!

And whirlwind adventures. Teachers in CA don't even get to do field trips to the local grocery store anymore.
