Concert Recap 2008

This year I've actually only been to four shows so far (Bon Iver was a bust)-here's a recap.

Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings-Sharon has been called the female James Brown and that's an apt description. Her band is amazing (the horn section is featured on Amy Winehouse's 2006 album, "Back to Black), and she's one of the greatest front men I've ever seen. The only downside to this concert was the drunk sorority wannabes who wanted to fight and I was one of their targets. Super lame.

Rhett Miller-I honestly didn't have the highest expectations. He's beautiful and an ok songwriter, but there's a reason he's called the Patrick Dempsey of Indy music. He's not a top-tier talent. Anyway the show was disappointing, and later on a friend who was closer to the show told me that he was drinking all night and appeared pretty drunk by the end. All I know is he sounded off where we were sitting.

Wilco-The stars aligned after a five year wait. I've tried to get tickets to see Jeff and Co. for 5 years. Finally got tickets, he didn't get a headache and it was even at the 9:30 club. We couldn't see all that well, but it was still amazing. Almost a religious experience really. I've been listening to this band for a decade next year and well, they didn't disappoint my high expectations. I was on cloud nine for weeks after this show.
The Raconteurs-More gushing like a school girl. I saw these guys open for Dylan two years ago and that show was in my top 5 shows ever. After this show, Kelli and I agreed it was in the top 3, but we're not sure what shows were higher. We saw them at the 9:30 club this time around and it was incredible. Watching Jack White, Brendan and co. do their thing? Never get tired of that. I've seen White perform 4 times now, and each time I'm dumbstruck by his talent and presence.

Next up: My Morning Jacket. Their new album, "Evil Urges," is one of my fave of the year so far. Really though, I'm going to see this song live. I can't wait.

Highly Suspicious - My Morning Jacket

We just saw 3 of the 5 a little over a week ago at Lollapalooza... #'s 1, 3 & 4 to be specific. It was fantastic. Have seen My Morning Jacket a couple of times, and they do not disappoint. Have fun!
