Quote of the Day

In Rolling Stone this week, a fascinating article about the "poorest" rich kids in the world appears.  These kids, from the Duke family (think Doris Duke and Duke University) were completely neglected and abused until a few years ago.  Now 15, they may or not be able to move on and lead productive lives.  Here's the quote from the author of the piece:
"You need not be shaped by your past, but rather the path ahead can be forged solely by your own actions, starting now." Sabrina Rubin Erdely

This is interesting considering Doris Duke was a very big deal in the area where I grew up. She donated a lot of land for parks and other things that benefited our community. I think she was original poor little rich girl because that family was so messed up. It goes to show you that money isn't everything.

I remember as a kid reading about Doris Duke in the newspaper quite a bit. She may have been the first poor little rich girl, but a lot of the wealthiest families in the U.S. have similar stories...just not this extreme. Fascinating article.
