What If
Since I heard about this yesterday, I've been contemplating the world if Joaquin Phoenix and Mark Wahlberg were the leads in Brokeback Mountain. Wahlberg said that he and Phoenix were considered for the leads but neither were comfortable with "the sex scene." While I applaud their reason for not taking the leads, I can't help but wonder the movie with the two of them in the leads.
First, would Wahlberg have played the part of Jack Twist (Jake's role) and Phoenix play the role of Ennis (Heath Ledger)? Somehow, I think Wahlberg would have made the line "I wish I knew how to quit you" less of a punchline. Or not.
Brokeback Mountain was a good movie, but not a great one. The story was solid but there were some weaknesses, one of them being Heath Ledger as Ennis. Phoenix as Ennis? Now, thats a what if.

I don't know . . . that whole cowboy gay thing . . . I just can't get my mind around it. I never saw the original Brokeback--but will take your word that it was good.

it was NOT good. i thought it was weak and didn't believe for a minute they loved each other. felt like they were two selfish boys in lust. okay, not meaning to be harsh on our difference of opinion but i just never understood all the praise for that movie.

No, that's cool Aisy. I definitely see where you're coming from. I think the movie was about the relationships-the relationships these men had with the women with their lives, and you see how the affair ruins so many lives around them. Like I said, I thought it was a good movie, but not great. And I didn't say good in the context of good and evil.
