Stop Kicking the Dead Horse!

I'm still shaking my head a little after reading about the "White Horse Prophecy" on Wonkette. Somehow, I'm not really surprised that its been resurrected or that the SL Tribune reported on it. I'm a little surprised to see it on Wonkette, but not really.

Anyway, the "White Horse Prophecy" was recorded in a journal entry of a Mormon who heard two men who were with Joseph Smith when he reportedly said, " "You will see the Constitution of the United States almost destroyed. It will hang like a thread as fine as a silk fiber." The journal entry goes on to say,""Power will be given to the White Horse to rebuke the nations afar off, and you obey it, for the laws go forth from Zion." White Horse Prophecy in entirety

The Prophecy was discredited officially by the LDS church in 1918, but you still hear about it, especially in the fringes of the Church. It's a little crazy this prophecy still is discussed and I've known people who agree with it--however, just the existence of the prophecy itself is well, a little suspect. Heresay is rarely a reliable means to receive revelation. Then there's the text itself. A little um, sensational, to say the least.

As far as Romney being the "white horse"......well, only if the white horse had an extremely groomed mane......

Note: I like when I can use the cheesiest art I could find on google.

Update: The Giuliani Deputy Campaign Director sent this article to bloggers Monday morning. They apologized after the fact saying the distribution of this article was "a regrettable mistake" and they reaffirm their commitment to hold a "clean campaign." Thanks Rich for the article. http://www.sltrib.com/news/ci_6062680?source=email

In related news: I'm already sick of the 2008 election...

I usually find Mormon art to be a little cheesey in general, hehe.

I think Romney is going to have a very hard time b/c of his religion. There are so many misconceptions, some understandably and others not, about his religion that I think that the religious right will have a hard time accepting him. Although, he has the benefit of having weak challengers, unless Mr. Law and Order is taken seriously.

Steve---what's funny is that isn't even Mormon art. But yeah, Mormon art leans on the cheese side.

Um, you should be here in the States. Yes, thanks to Mitt, Mormon religion is here in the mainstream right now.

Aisy--It's weird. I'd heard bits of pieces here and there. I know a few people who "have a testimony" of it. I've always thought it odd.

Laurie--Google does rule!

So that's where they get the "Declaration hanging by a thread" thing. The only part I've heard of that weird weird anglo-centric prophecy

Sherp,

I may not be in the States, but I get CNN and FoxNews and all the dopey US news channels so I see and hear all the debate. Plus the good ol'internet keeps me more than connected to what is going on and the IHT (International Herald Tribune, one of the best periodicals, ever!) always has lots of US political coverage. So I have the best of both worlds, I am connected and in the loop, but get to live in Europe, hehe. At least until this fall.

Steve,

I was sure you got our news (I've been to Europe several times) and I know the Internet works there too, its not the same as living here--which is evidenced by your statement on Mitt.

I think its funny you felt you had to "correct" me though.

sick of the election. Me too.

LOL! I definitely don't think of Romney as the white horse. He's more like the horse on the wizard of OZ who changes colors every few minutes.

Don't you just love LDS urban legends.
