5 Reasons Ana Marie Cox Misses Mit Romney
I was intrigued to see the 5 reasons Ana Marie Cox (the original Wonkette) missed Mitt. After watching the Swampcast, I too missed Mitt a little bit. Since I can't embed this, and I have a few minutes, here's the transcript and if you want to watch the video on Swampcast, its here. So here's the top five reasons Ana misses Mitt.
Hi I'm Ana Marie Cox and today Mitt Romney has dropped out of the Presidential Race so I'm dedicating my swamp cast to him in five things I'll miss about Mitt Romney.
The First thing I'll miss: Mittens, Mitchrom, the Romney Bus. He was a veritable font of amusing nicknames and John McCain isn't so much. Mac, that's what we got, Johnny Mac Amnesty John and Obama, well, he's got a funny enough name as it is so you really can't go anywhere with that. And hillary, well the best they can do with that is Billary. So today, my friends, we've lost our Mittens.
The second thing I'm gonna miss about Mitt Romney, golly, gee whillikers, I'm frosted. The man did more for clean language than the Beaver, if you know what I mean. He also introduced an entire generation of reporters to words such as "if you will."
The third thing I'm going to miss about Mitt Romney is learning more about Mormonism and I'm not being facetious. Its because of Mitt Romney's candidacy that I dug out my old copy of Under the Banner of Heaven, a really great true crime book by John Krakauer and I loved it. I learned a lot about the Mormon church which is really, really interesting and has interesting parallels in American History. It is the first and perhaps only true American religion and even though he dropped out of the race, y'all should read it.
The fourth thing I'm going to miss about Mitt Romney is really about his campaign. I'm going to miss the campaign's music that they played before he got on stage. After he got on stage and when he walked off it was pretty typical fare and in fact included Belinda Carlisle and Elvis and I'm not real fans of either of them actually. But his warm up music was actually really cool and hip. He played Arcade Fire, the Shins and Iron and Wine among other things and so it was kind of you know nice and head bobbing music for the kids in the crowd who didn't want to listen to Elvis. It also sort of made my brain hurt to think about this cool music being played while Mitt, possibly the uncoolest man in the universe was walking on stage.
The number one thing I'm going to miss about Mitt Romney is a line from his stump speech which every time I heard it both puzzled, amused and distracted me, quite frankly. He would always say Americans are god-fearing nation and then he would say something like, even those of us that don't believe in God believe in something larger than ourselves. How does he know that? Has he done research on it? Is there a phone bank somewhere about atheists and how do you ask an atheist that question? I think its pure projection on Mitt's part because Mitt definitely believes in something larger than himself, its probably his bank account, but I always wondered what he would say if an atheist introduced him to the fact that atheists don't really believe in anything. I however, believe in something and that this race is going to be a lot less interesting with Mitt Romney gone.
Anyway, this video post made me think. Some of it I agree with, some of it was insightful, some got my Mormon persecution complex flag raised a little bit and well, mostly even though I didn't ever see myself voting for Mitt, I missed Mittens a tiny bit.

I've exchanged several emails with friends and definitely the thing we all seem to miss the most will be the ability to refer to an overly serious adult as "Mittens". It's such a cool nickname, I hope he trademarked it. Wait, this is Mittens we are talking about, with his business sense, he probably already has!
Seriously, I totally agree. Mittens is perhaps the best political nickname in at least ten years. I can't think of one that's better in that time.
where's the video post that got her thinking (or you?)? and what happened to that awesome balloon fashion!?
The original is in that first post. The balloon fashion? Probably will make a showing tomorrow.
I'm hoping she was facetious about learning anything about the Church from the Banner of Heaven. She looks a bit ragged in her "swamp cast" though. I didn't know she did one of those. She's an interesting personality, particularly her background with Wonkette.
Guy
No, she wasn't being facetious about Banner in Heaven. I've come across quite a few people who aren't LDS who feel the same about the book.
